Why Our Dog Bowls and Placemats Still Carry the Outpaw Logo
Jennifer McCarthyIf you have bought a stainless steel dog bowl or a silicone feeding placemat from us lately, you may have noticed something odd. The logo on it does not say Wolf Woman Essentials. It says Outpaw.
That is not a mistake, and it is not old stock we are trying to sneak out the door. It is a decision we made on purpose, and we think it is worth explaining, because it says a lot about what "eco-friendly dog bowls" should actually mean.
A quick history
Wolf Woman Essentials started life as Outpaw Essentials. Same founder, same dog, same obsession with gear that holds up on a trail. When we rebranded, the whole look of the company changed. The products themselves did not need to.
Our bowls and placemats were already exactly what we wanted them to be. The bowl is a 64-ounce, double-wall insulated 304 stainless steel bowl with a cushioned non-slip base. It keeps water cold, does not tip, does not hold odors, and goes through the dishwasher for years.
The placemat is the piece we are proudest of, and its design is patented in both the United States and China. Two features define it. The first is a 6-inch bendable splash guard along the back edge that curves up in three positions, so the wall behind the bowls stops taking the hit when Jessie, our Chief Field Tester, flings water a foot in every direction. The second is the Airflow channel base: raised channels on the underside lift the 22 by 25 inch mat off the floor so trapped moisture evaporates instead of sitting against hardwood or laminate, the slow damage you never see until the finish is ruined. Food-grade, BPA-free silicone, waterproof, non-slip, and it rolls up for travel. Nothing about a new logo would make either product better.
The option we did not take
The standard move after a rebrand is to clear out the old inventory. Discount it, bundle it, write it off, or quietly send it to a liquidator. Then order a fresh run with the new logo and start clean.
We looked at that. Here is what it would have meant in practice: a few thousand perfectly good bowls and mats pushed out at a loss, then a new production run, new freight across the Pacific, new boxes, new everything. All to replace a small stamped logo that has nothing to do with how the product performs.
For a company that puts DESIGNED TO ENDURE® on its gear, that felt like the wrong answer. The most sustainable product is the one that already exists. A bowl that gets used for ten years is greener than a bowl that gets shipped twice.
What "eco-friendly" means to us
A lot of pet brands lead with the word sustainable and hope you do not look too closely. We would rather be specific.
- Durable over disposable. Stainless steel and silicone are not trendy materials. They are the ones that last. A product you never have to replace is the one with the smallest footprint.
- Use what exists. That is this whole post. Our Outpaw-marked bowls and mats stay in the line until they sell through, at full quality and full warranty.
- Honest materials. Our Eco Poop Bags are made from post-consumer recycled plastic. We say recycled, not compostable, because that is what they are.
- Fewer, better things. We would rather you buy one bowl and one mat and keep them, than a new set every season.
Will the logo change eventually?
Yes. When this inventory sells through, the next production run will carry the Wolf Woman Essentials mark. Until then, these pieces live in our OutPaw Classics collection: the original designs that inspired the brand, with the legacy logo and the same quality. Think of it as a small badge of a company that chose not to throw things away to look tidier.
If you own one, you are part of that choice. Thank you for that.
Shop the gear
The stainless steel dog bowl and the silicone feeding placemat are both in our feeding gear collection, and both ship free. Same bowls, same mats, same lifetime of use. Just a logo with a story behind it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Outpaw bowl the same product as the Wolf Woman Essentials bowl?
Yes. Same factory, same 304 stainless steel, same double-wall insulation, same specifications. Only the logo differs. The same is true of the placemat, including its patented design.
Are the Outpaw-marked bowls and placemats covered by your warranty?
Yes. They are current products sold at full quality and carry the same guarantee as everything else we sell.
Why not just sell the old stock at a discount?
Because discounting signals that something is wrong with the product, and nothing is. The bowls and mats are exactly what we designed. We would rather explain the logo than devalue the gear.
