Jennifer got Jessie through Because Animals Matter, a rescue in Hurricane, Utah, by way of Colorado — a herding-breed cocktail whose brother was adopted out months before her. She turned out to be a natural athlete with a scary work ethic: she catches balls out of the air almost every time and can find one in tall grass with the wind working against her. And when she hits full concentration, her lip snags on a tooth — the fiercest dog on the trail, watching birds go by with her lip stuck. Jennifer didn’t stand a chance.

Found a lake exactly two feet deep in every direction, indefinitely. Ran in water for the better part of forever, no swimming required. For the record, pools remain unacceptable. This was not a pool.
