Here’s My Recommendation.**
After decades of training dogs in every environment imaginable, here’s what consistently works:
✔️ 1. Choose an AAFCO-complete diet.
Fresh-cooked or cold-pressed are ideal.
✔️ 2. Avoid extreme diets.
Strict raw or strict grain-free diets often cause more harm than good.
✔️ 3. Prioritize whole grains + quality protein.
Adventure dogs burn carbs — they need replenishment.
✔️ 4. Feed for the day’s activity level.
-
Pre-hike: carbs + lean protein
-
During hike: high-fat trail snacks
-
Post-hike: higher protein for recovery
✔️ 5. Use a clean, hygienic feeding system designed for whole foods.
Fresh food is amazing — but it’s also messy. That’s why your feeding gear matters.
And speaking of fueling…
